John Messenger – Recovery Story

Healthy Harrison and the Harrison County Commission are honored to share the inspiring story of John Messenger, a Clarksburg resident and executive assistant at Arch Recovery Center. John’s path to recovery was shaped by early childhood trauma, military service, the loss of his parents, and years of substance abuse that ultimately led to incarceration. But through faith, community support, and a commitment to change, John has emerged as a passionate advocate for recovery. Now sober for nearly three years, he uses his experiences to uplift others, showing that even the darkest moments can lead to powerful transformations. His story is a testament to the belief that recovery is not only possible—it’s probable. This video is part of our ongoing mission to rewrite the narrative of addiction in West Virginia, one story at a time.
